Prayers for Combating Fear and Building Faith
These prayers are taken from my prayer book, 7 Days of Prayer, which is in the process of being published.
(To Be Memorized) The First Song of Isaiah
Isaiah 12:2‑6 BCP (adapted SRP)
Surely, it is God who saves me; I will trust in Him and not be afraid. For the Lord is my stronghold and my sure defense, and He will be my Savior. Therefore, you (I, we) shall draw water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation. And on that day you (I, we) shall say, Give thanks to the Lord and call upon His Name; Make His deeds known among the peoples; see that they remember that His Name is exalted. Sing praises of the Lord, for He has done great things, and this is known in all the world. Cry aloud, inhabitants of Zion, ring out your joy, for the great one in the midst of you is the Holy One of Israel.
(Confess these prayers every day)
The Second Song of Isaiah
Isaiah 55:6‑11 BCP
Seek the Lord while He wills to be found; Call upon Him when He draws near. Let the wicked forsake their ways and the evil ones their thoughts; And let them turn to the Lord, and He will have compassion, and to our God, for He will richly pardon. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. For as rain and snow fall from the heavens and return not again, but water the earth, bringing forth life and giving growth, seed for sowing and bread for eating, So is My Word that goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty; But it will accomplish that which I have purposed, and prosper in that for which I sent it.
The Third Song of Isaiah
Isaiah 60:1‑3, 11a, 14c, 18‑19 BCP
Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory of the Lord has dawned upon you. For behold, darkness covers the land; deep gloom enshrouds the peoples. But over you the Lord will rise, and His glory will appear upon you. Nations will stream to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawning. Your gates will always be open; by day or night they will never be shut. They will call you, The City of the Lord, The Zion of the Holy One of Israel. Violence will no more be heard in your land, ruin or destruction within your borders. You will call your walls, Salvation, and all your portals, Praise. The sun will no more be your light by day; by night you will not need the brightness of the moon. The Lord will be your everlasting light, and your God will be your glory.
Song from Isaiah 40:28-31
Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
Isaiah’s Song of the Cross Isa 53:1-6 NIV
Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows, and familiar with suffering. Like one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he took up our infirmities and carried our sorrows, yet we considered him stricken by God, smitten by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Isaiah’s Song of Peace
Isaiah 9:6-7; 26:1-4; 55:12-13; 60:16-17 NIV
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this. In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; God makes salvation its walls and ramparts. Open the gates that the righteous nation may enter, the nation that keeps faith. You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD, is the Rock eternal. You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands. Instead of the thorn bush will grow the pine tree, and instead of briers the myrtle will grow. This will be for the LORD’s renown, for an everlasting sign, which will not be destroyed.” Then you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior, your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. Instead of bronze I will bring you gold, and silver in place of iron. Instead of wood I will bring you bronze, and iron in place of stones. I will make peace your governor and righteousness your ruler.
A Prayer for a Meaningful Life
From Phil 3:17-4:1 NLT (adapted SRP)
You are my God, not my appetite. I praise You and boast of eternal and beautiful things. I am a citizen of heaven, where You, Lord Jesus live. And I am eagerly waiting for You to return as my Savior. Until then, You are taking my weak mortal body and changing it into a glorious body like your own, using the same mighty power that You will use to conquer everything, everywhere.
Confessions of Faith in the Father’s Care
Matt 6:25-33 NLT (Adapted SRP)
I do not worry about everyday life — whether I have enough food, drink, and clothes. Doesn’t life consist of more than food and clothing? I look at the birds. They don’t need to plant or harvest or put food in barns because You, my heavenly Father, feed them. And I am far more valuable to You than they are. Can all my worries add a single moment to my life? Of course not.
I do not worry about my clothes. I look at the lilies and how they grow. They don’t work or make their clothing, yet Solomon in all his glory was not dressed as beautifully as they are. And if You care so wonderfully for flowers that are here today and gone tomorrow, won’t You more surely care for me? I have enough faith to receive your constant care.
So I don’t worry about having enough food or drink or clothing. Why be like the pagans who are so deeply concerned about these things? My heavenly Father already knows all my needs, and You will give me all I need from day to day because I live for You and make the Kingdom of God my primary concern.
Fruitfulness Confession
Psalm 52:8-9 NIV
… I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever. I will praise You forever for what You have done; in Your name I will hope, for Your name is good. I will praise You in the presence of Your saints. Amen
Burden Casting Confession
From Psalm 55:22 and 1 Peter 5:6-7 (adapted SRP)
Today, I cast my burden upon You, Lord. You will sustain me. As I stand in the righteousness of Jesus, You will never permit me to be shaken, to slip, or to fall. Therefore, I humble myself under Your mighty hand, O God. Exalt me in due time. I cast all my care upon You, for You care for me.
Confession of Mercy and Blessing
Ps 90:13-91:1 NLT (adapted SRP)
Lord Jesus, You come to me in mercy; Your love is my portion today. As this day begins, I feast on Your truth and presence and I will joyfully sing throughout the day and night of Your unfailing love. Give us gladness in proportion to our former misery! Replace the evil years with good. Let us see Your miracles again; let our children see Your glory at work. And Lord, show us Your approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!
Prayer for Direction
Ps 25:4-5 NLT
Show me the path where I should walk, O LORD; point out the right road for me to follow. Lead me by your truth and teach me, for you are the God who saves me. All day long I put my hope in you.
Prayer of Stillness and Trust
Ps 46:10 Ps 37:1-7NIV (adapted SRP)
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Don’t worry about the wicked. Don’t envy those who do wrong. For like grass, they soon fade away. Like springtime flowers, they soon wither. (I will) Trust in the LORD and do good. Then you (I) will live safely in the land and prosper. (I will) Take delight in the LORD, and he will give you (me) your (my) heart’s desires. I Commit everything you (I) do to the LORD. (I) Trust him, and he will help you (me). He will make your (my) innocence as clear as the dawn, and the justice of your (my) cause will shine like the noonday.
(This promise is special to me; given when I was in a long-term season of emotional healing. I confess it as a promise from the Lord.)
Promise of Healing
Jer 30:17 NLT
I will give you back your health and heal your wounds, says the LORD.

EXAMPLE
Isaiah 43:1-2 NKJV
But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.
PRAYER VERSION
Lord, you created me and formed me. You have redeemed me. Therefore, I do not fear. You have called me by name and I am yours. When I pass through deep waters of circumstances beyond my control, I know that You are with me. Even deep and powerful rivers will never drown me. When I walk through terrible fires, I shall not be burned or even scorched. Lord, you created me and formed me. You have redeemed me. Therefore, I do not fear.

Scriptures from which you can compose prayers against fear
Romans 8:12-17 NKJV
Therefore, brethren, we are debtors — not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs — heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.
1 John 4:17-19 NKJV
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love. We love Him because He first loved us.
