It is my great joy to lead worship on Friday mornings with these wonderful people! I often say that a worship leader cannot lead people in worship if he/she doesn’t love them. I love these people! They are a praying generation! There is no way to calculate how many lives of their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are being held together by their prayers. I am so blessed that they are now my prayer partners in the ministry.
After several decades of leading multi-generational worship in the churches I have served, I am now leading a single generation in their heart-songs. It has been a joy for me to revisit the songs of my childhood which are so precious to me. It is also an opportunity for younger worship leaders to have a reference of these great songs of our shared history. So, I created this page to share my work, week by week. I hope worship leaders will find this helpful if they are ever given the assignment of leading older generations in worship. I have an outstanding pianist, Kevin Townsend, who can do whatever I ask him to do. The principles of worship leading are all here:
- A theme from God: the truth the Spirit wants us to celebrate that day,
- A three-part art form: beginning, middle and end,
- Smooth key flow from song to song: the circle of 4ths and 5ths, and
- The public reading of scripture as Paul commanded Timothy. (1 Tim 4:13 NIV)
Be blessed as we celebrate the Lord’s goodness “from generation to generation!”
